Besides myriad of problems our 60-year old nation is facing, I want to highlight only one of them: 83.6 crore Indians live on less than twenty rupees a day.It is quite possible to change the defination of 'poor',but it can never be possible to under-estimate this bare and stark reality. Should we expect such a large section of population to bask in the glory of surging number of dollar-billionaires of this country? Can we afford to have this vast chasm separating rich and poor?..

  1. The criterion according Government Of India in deciding the BPL is the money which can buy minimum food to prevent a person from starving. So if a person is able to get 2200 calories a day , he/she is above poverty line.Lo and Behold !!! According to GOI 10 rs per day is enough for that.So a person earning 300 rs per month is above poverty line.As if the only need of human being is 2200 calories a day. What about shelter, medical care and education. Is earning meagre 10 rs enough to provide these facilities??It seems that policy makers doesn't find any difference between Human being and animals.Having such ridiculous benchmark to measure poverty line is an attempt to hide the wretched condition and rampant poverty in which majority of Indian live.
